Make way for your next overdrive pedal. The first time our friends over at Boss have collaborated with another pedal company and its none other than JHS. This new pedal known as the ‘Angry Driver’ has two circuits running in tandem, one is modelled off the JHS Angry Charlie- a well known grunty and mid heavy distortion effect used by players around the world- and a Boss BD-2 Blues Driver. Yes the little blue box we have all known and loved for time in memoriam.

So the answer is yes, you are getting two pedals in one box but how the pedal operates is its true appeal. There are 6 main modes on the pedal.

Make way for your next overdrive pedal. The first time our friends over at Boss have collaborated with another pedal company and its none other than JHS. This new pedal known as the Boss JB2 Angry Driver has two circuits running in tandem, one is modelled off the JHS Angry Charlie- a well known grunty and mid heavy distortion effect used by players around the world- and a Boss BD-2 Blues Driver. Yes the little blue box we have all known and loved for time in memoriam.

So the answer is yes, you are getting two pedals in one box but how the pedal operates is its true appeal. There are 6 main modes on the pedal.

JHS Mode-

This is basically the model of the Angry Charlie sound, you can affect its tone level and drive with the dual control knobs (the outside controls the JHS and the inside controls the BD2. When this mode is activated the red light with illuminate and you can switch the effect on and off like any regular Boss pedal.

Blues Driver Mode-

This is the model of the Blues Driver, like the JHS mode you can affect its tone level and drive with the dual control knobs (the outside controls the JHS and the inside controls the BD2. When this mode is activated the blue light with illuminate and you can switch the effect on and off like any regular Boss pedal.

JHS or Blues Driver Mode

This mode allows you to have both circuits on and select between them. When this mode is active you cannot switch the effect off, only switch between the two circuits. The cool thing about this mode is you can set each of the parameters how you like and use one as a rhythm sound and one as a boost or just have two different distortion circuits with the click off a button.

JHS into Blues Driver Mode-

This mode has the circuit of the JHS running into the Blues Driver. Its definitely an interesting sound(see our video) as you get the different textures of both pedals but considering the JHS is a heavier drive sound it definitely dominates in the mix.

Blues Driver into JHS-

Essentially the equivalent of a Tube Screamer going into a JCM800 if you will pardon the comparison. This is what this pedal is all about in our opinion, its like taking the nice transparent sound and texture of the Blues Driver and wacking it in front of the Angry Charlie. We found this to be our favourite tone on this pedal and with the dual controls you can wind it back or up anyway you like.

Parallel Mode

An all out assault on all your senses. This mode activates both circuits at once with only the controls to save you. You have both pedals going at the same time and again you can dial up the control settings however you see fit!

This pedal is definitely something different in the Boss lineup and its going to be one that won’t stay on shelves for long. Come down to the shop and try it out or grab one online, you won’t be disappointed.
